Jim Phillips

Jim Phillips is Application Scientist at Zurich Instruments. He did his PhD in physics at Stanford and enjoyed a long career doing research into precision astronomical projects, working on a proposed space-based micro-arcsecond astronomical interferometer. He developed tests of gravity to be based on a sounding rocket. For these projects, he developed a laser distance gauge accurate for 1 m distances to the diameter of a uranium nucleus. He joined Zurich Instruments in 2018 and is having fun solving problems for customers. When he’s not working on electronics problems, Jim likes to sail his 5 m long dinghy in the ocean.
